About

Hoyoland is the opposite of a modern spa: a sprawl of weathered buildings in the steaming hills between Kannawa and Myoban where the speciality is doro-yu, hot spring mud. Inside the gender-separated areas there are muddy indoor tubs, and beyond them a large mixed-gender outdoor mud pool where the bottom is a thick layer of soft clay that squishes between your toes; locals rub it on their skin and swear by it. There is also a steam bath and conventional baths. The atmosphere is retro and a bit rough around the edges, which is exactly why onsen fans love it. Bring your own towel and expect cash only at the counter.
