About

Kamado Jigoku takes its name from the kamado (cooking stove) used to steam rice offerings for the local shrine with the vent's heat. The site is a little circuit of pools numbered 1 to 6, ranging from boiling red mud to milky turquoise water whose colour shifts through the year, guarded by a huge red oni demon dressed as a cook. Staff do a popular demonstration: they puff smoke over a vent and the steam suddenly multiplies, explained by the particles seeding condensation. There is a foot bath, a hand bath, a steam inhalation spot, a drinkable hot spring tap and stalls selling steamed eggs, pudding and Ramune soda, so it is the best stop for kids.
