About
Yokoamicho Park stands on the former army clothing depot ground where tens of thousands of evacuees were killed by a fire whirlwind after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. The Tokyo Memorial Hall, a temple-like building by architect Ito Chuta, now honours both the earthquake victims and those of the 1945 air raids. The small Great Kanto Earthquake Memorial Museum displays melted objects and photographs from the disaster.
