Spice Magic Calcutta Minami-guchi スパイスマジック カルカッタ 南口店
The South Indian branch of Nishi-Kasais original Indian restaurant, founded by tea trader Jagmohan Chandrani to feed the local Indian community: giant crisp dosa, free-refill sambar and thali.
Dinner (dosa + drink): ¥2,000
About
Nishi-Kasai became Tokyos "Little India" when IT engineers settled here around 2000, and Calcutta, opened by Jagmohan S. Chandrani, the tea merchant who is the communitys unofficial leader, was one of its first restaurants. The Minami-guchi (south exit) branch is the one for South Indian cooking: enormous, paper-thin masala dosa with coconut chutney, free-refill sambar and rasam, uttapam, and meals (thali) at lunch, alongside North Indian curries. The dining room is plain and many customers are Indian families, which tells you what you need to know. Prices are reasonable and lunch sets are a bargain.
