About

Hidden inside Gyosen Park in Kita-Kasai, Edogawa Natural Zoo is the kind of place Tokyo parents know and tourists never hear about. It is small and completely free, yet it keeps red pandas, Humboldt penguins, capuchin and cotton-top tamarin monkeys, wallabies, owls and a variety of birds, all in compact, well-kept enclosures. The animal-contact corner lets children hold guinea pigs and stroke goats on set times. The rest of Gyosen Park has a pretty Japanese garden with a sukiya-style teahouse, a waterfall and a koi pond, plus a stream for paddling in summer. It makes a relaxed half-day with Nishi-Kasai's Indian food just a short walk away.
