Shibamata Tourist Information Center 柴又観光案内所
Katsushika's little information office near Shibamata Station, for the Tora-san films' old-town shopping street, Taishakuten temple and the Yagiri ferry, with a fine range of local traditional crafts.
About
Shibamata is a slice of old Tokyo made famous by the Otoko wa Tsurai yo (Tora-san) films: a lane of dango and senbei shops leading to Shibamata Taishakuten temple with its extraordinary wood carvings, and the hand-rowed Yagiri ferry across the Edogawa. This small information center two minutes from Keisei Shibamata Station has maps of the area and an unusually good selection of Katsushika traditional crafts as souvenirs. Service is in Japanese, but the maps and the short, walkable route make it easy to use. It has toilets and is open every day.
Highlights
- Gateway to the Tora-san shopping street and Taishakuten
- Good selection of Katsushika traditional crafts
- Maps for the Yagiri ferry and Edogawa riverbank
