Shibamata Haikara Yokocho 柴又ハイカラ横丁
A retro dagashi candy shop and Showa toy museum on the Shibamata sando, with old arcade machines, menko cards and hundreds of nostalgic toys from the 1950s to 70s.
Toy museum: ¥200
About
Haikara Yokocho is the Shibamata stop for Showa nostalgia: the ground floor is crammed with cheap dagashi sweets, old-style toys, bromide photo cards and souvenirs, plus a few vintage coin-op game machines that still take 10-yen coins. Upstairs, the small Shibamata Toy Museum displays tin robots, celluloid dolls, manga magazines, early TV-show merchandise and board games from the Showa 30s to 50s (1955-1980). Its on the corner by the station end of the sando and a fun detour for kids and grown-ups who grew up with similar toys.
