Raishuken (Asakusa) 来集軒
Since 1950 this small Nishi-Asakusa shop has served chuka soba and wantanmen essentially unchanged, a living taste of postwar shitamachi Tokyo a few steps from Kappabashi.
Wantanmen: ¥1,000
About
Raishuken has stood on a quiet street between Asakusa and Kappabashi Kitchen Town since 1950. It is a classic shitamachi ramen shop: a few tables, a TV in the corner, and a menu of chuka soba in a light chicken and pork shoyu broth, wantanmen and chashu-men, plus gyoza. The noodles are thin and soft in the old Tokyo way, and the soup is gentle rather than punchy. Locals come for the comfort of a bowl that has hardly changed in decades. Its location makes it an easy lunch stop between Senso-ji and the knife and food-sample shops of Kappabashi.
