About

Sometaro is one of Tokyo's oldest okonomiyaki restaurants, and stepping off the street into its creaky wooden house feels like entering an old film set. You take your shoes off, sit on cushions at low tables with built-in teppan griddles, and are brought bowls of batter and fillings to mix and fry yourself; staff will demonstrate if it's your first time. Beyond pork or squid okonomiyaki, try the old-fashioned house specialties and yakisoba fried on the same griddle. Writers, artists and rakugo performers have been regulars for generations, and the walls show it. It's cheap, cosy and hot in summer.
