About

Imahan was founded in 1895 at the dawn of Japan's beef-eating era and is now synonymous with Kanto-style sukiyaki. At the Kokusai-dori main store, a short walk west of Senso-ji, private and semi-private rooms open onto a small garden, and servers prepare the meal in front of you: thin slices of Kuroge wagyu are seared in a cast-iron pan with warishita (soy-mirin sauce), followed by tofu, leeks, shirataki noodles and mushrooms, and finished with rice. Lunch sets are the most affordable way in; dinner courses are a special-occasion splurge. Outside the restaurant, Imahan's deli counters sell beef tsukudani and famous wagyu menchi-katsu croquettes.
