Keisei Kanamachi Line 京成金町線
A tiny three-station Keisei branch line from Keisei-Takasago to Kanamachi via Shibamata: the nostalgic local train of the Tora-san films, the only way to reach Shibamata by rail.
About
The Keisei Kanamachi Line is just 2.5 km long, with three stations (Keisei-Takasago, Shibamata and Keisei-Kanamachi), and it runs short four-car trains back and forth all day, mostly as a shuttle. It began life in 1899 as a hand-pushed passenger tram (the Taishaku Jinsha Tetsudo) carrying worshippers to Taishakuten, and appears in many Otoko wa Tsurai yo scenes with Tora-san arriving or leaving Shibamata. At Keisei-Takasago the line uses a separate elevated platform, and at Kanamachi it connects with the JR Joban Line. Riding it, slow and squeaky past back gardens, is part of a Shibamata outing.
