About

Kasai Kaihin Park is the sea-side counterpart to Kasai Rinkai Park, made up of two artificial sand bars, West Nagisa and East Nagisa, in the mouth of the Arakawa and Old Edo rivers. The whole area is a Ramsar-listed wetland, the first in Tokyo, and East Nagisa is closed to people as a bird refuge. West Nagisa is the public one: cross the Nagisa Bridge from the Ferris wheel and you step onto a wide beach of real sand with views of Tokyo Disney Resorts hotels across the water. Since the late 2010s the metropolitan government has opened a supervised "sea bathing" zone here each summer (roughly late July to the end of August), with lifeguards and a fixed area. Outside that window it is a place for paddling, shell spotting, kite surfing watching and sunsets. Spring tides draw families looking for crabs and small fish in the shallows.
