About

Kani Doraku opened its first restaurant on Dotonbori in 1962 and installed the moving crab sign that became a template for Osaka's outrageous three-dimensional signboards: the giant fugu lantern, the dragon of Kinryu Ramen and the gyoza. The crab, about 6.5 m wide, moves its legs and eye stalks continuously above the restaurant entrance on Dotonbori street, a few steps east of Ebisubashi. The restaurant behind it serves set meals of snow crab in every form, and there are street-side stalls selling grilled crab legs. It is a reliable meeting point and photo stop, whether or not you eat crab.
