About

Ebisubashi has crossed the Dotonbori canal since the canal was dug in the early 17th century, linking the theatre district of Dotonbori with the Shinsaibashi shopping street. Locals call it Hikkake-bashi, the pick-up bridge, from its days as a flirting and street-scouting spot. Today it is the place to stand for the classic Osaka shot: the Glico running man, the giant LED screens of the Don Quijote and Tombori buildings, and the canal below. Steps lead down to the Tombori River Walk along the water, from which the Tombori River Cruise boats depart. When Osaka sports teams win big, fans have famously jumped from the bridge into the canal, which is now strongly discouraged with police lines.
