About
If you arrive at JR Osaka from Kyoto, Shin-Osaka or the Haruka and plan to explore Umeda for a few hours, the eastern side of the station is the quickest place to stash bags. Right outside the South Gate there is a big bank of roughly 250 units (small, medium and about 20 large), with more around the Midosuji Gate and Midosuji North Exit toward LUCUA, and two further groups on Float Court 2F under the Osaka Station City roof, one of which has a handful of extra-large units. All of these are outside the ticket gates, so you can use them without a train ticket. Newer JR West banks are touch-screen units that take ICOCA and other transit IC cards (and let the card act as your key); older banks take 100-yen coins and some 1,000-yen notes. JR West's reservable SPACER smart lockers are also installed around the station and can be booked in an app. Live availability for many Umeda banks is shown on coinlocker-navi.com, and ecbo cloak lists shops nearby that take bags for a flat daily fee.
Highlights
- Several hundred units just outside the Midosuji and South gates
- Float Court 2F banks include a few extra-large lockers
- Touch-screen lockers take ICOCA, Suica and other IC cards
- Outside the gates: no ticket needed to drop or collect
- Two minutes to the Midosuji subway line and Hankyu/Hanshin
Tips
- Large units here are usually gone by 10:00 on weekends; if so walk 3 minutes west to the Sakurabashi Exit banks
- Crosta Osaka, the staffed JR baggage counter by the Central Gate, takes bags that don't fit
- Day charges roll over overnight, so a bag dropped at 21:00 and collected at 9:00 pays two days
- Most lockers are cleared after 3 days and the contents go to the station lost-property office, so don't use them for multi-day storage
