Rebuilt in 2011, JR Osaka Station is Kansai's busiest hub, and its giant 180 m long, 50 m high glass-and-steel roof spanning all platforms is one of the great station spaces in Japan. Escalators climb from the concourse to the 5F Toki-no-Hiroba (Time and Space Plaza), a bridge-level plaza with a huge clock looking straight down over trains, and higher still to the free Wind Plaza and Tenku-no-Noen rooftop farm garden on top of the North Gate Building. The station connects to LUCUA, Daimaru, Grand Front and the new Grand Green Osaka, and since 2024 the JP Tower Osaka (with KITTE Osaka and The Osaka Station Hotel) has sat atop its western side.

Tips

The Time and Space Plaza at dusk is a superb free photo spot
Use the North Gate Building escalators to reach the 11F/14F rooftop gardens
For the Hankyu or Midosuji lines, follow signs for the Midosuji (east) exits
Rooftop gardens close in the evening and in bad weather
