About
Manpuku-ji was founded in 1661 by the Chinese monk Ingen and remains the head temple of Obaku Zen. Its symmetrical layout, round windows and gates look noticeably different from other Japanese temples. A huge wooden fish hanging in the corridor is still struck to mark the time. The temple is also known for fucha ryori, a Chinese-style vegetarian cuisine.
