Itoh Kyuemon has grown tea in Uji since 1832, and its main shop on the east side of the Uji River combines a tea shop with a spacious cafe. The menu is matcha everything: parfaits with matcha jelly, ice cream, warabi-mochi and brownies; matcha soba; even a green matcha curry udon. It is quieter than the shops on the Byodoin approach and has easy parking for tour buses, which can make it busy at lunch. There are also sister shops at JR Uji Station and Gion-Shijo.
