Naritasan Park 成田山公園
A free 16.5-hectare strolling garden on the hill behind Naritasan's halls, with three ponds, the Yuhi waterfall, a floating pavilion and around 250 maples that turn crimson from mid-November.
About
Behind the main halls of Naritasan Shinshoji the precinct softens into a sprawling landscape garden of about 165,000 square metres, laid out around the Ryuchi, Ryuju and Monju ponds. Paths wind under cedars and maples to the Yuhi-no-taki waterfall that feeds the ponds, past a little floating pavilion (Ukimido) and stone bridges, and up to the 58 m Great Pagoda of Peace at the park's edge. Plum blossoms bloom in February and March, and in autumn about 250 maple trees blaze red and gold during the Naritasan Park autumn leaves festival, usually mid-November into early December. Even on busy temple days it stays quiet, making it the best place in town to decompress before a flight.
