Kikuya 菊屋
A long-established Omotesando restaurant from the mid-Edo period, whose name comes from a chrysanthemum crest granted by Naritasan. Certified domestic eel, tempura and Japanese set meals, and unusually long hours until evening.
Domestic unaju: ¥4,950
About
Kikuya has fed Naritasan pilgrims since the middle of the Edo period, and its name is said to come from the chrysanthemum crest given to the house by the temple. Eel is the headline, using only eels with certificates of origin, served as unadon or the more generous unaju, but the menu is broader than at the eel specialists, with tempura, soba and seasonal set meals, which makes it a good choice for groups with mixed appetites. It is right on the busiest stretch of Omotesando near the Tourist Pavilion and stays open later than most of its neighbours, so it is a reliable dinner option for anyone staying the night in Narita.
