Wakamatsu Honten 成田山門前 旅館 若松本店
A traditional ryokan directly facing Naritasan's main gate, so you can walk out of bed into the morning goma ritual. Eel-based kaiseki dinners and large baths, 20 minutes by car from the airport.
About
Wakamatsu Honten has hosted pilgrims at the foot of Naritasan's stone steps for generations, and few places in Japan put you closer to a major temple. Rooms are mostly Japanese-style with tatami and futon, some looking across to the gate. Dinner is a kaiseki course built around Narita's famous eel, and there are separate large baths for men and women. Staying here lets you see the temple at dawn, when the morning goma at 6:00 (5:30 in summer) is attended mainly by locals, before the day-trippers arrive. It is an easy taxi ride to the airport for a late-morning flight.
