About

Jumonjibaru is a grassy plateau above Beppu, near the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University campus, and its observation deck is where Beppu residents drive for the night view. The city spreads in an arc of lights along the bay, steam plumes faintly lit, with Oita city sparkling across the water and the Sadamisaki peninsula on clear evenings. It's been ranked among Japan's notable night views. Daytime is good too, with grassland, the bay and Takasakiyama in view. You'll need a car or taxi, as there's no practical public transport at night.
