Yanagibashi Bridge 柳橋
A green 1929 tied-arch bridge at the mouth of the Kanda River, surrounded by moored yakatabune boats in the old Yanagibashi geisha quarter.
About
Yanagibashi was the last bridge on the Kanda River before it joined the Sumida and gave its name to one of Edo and Meiji Tokyo's most famous geisha districts. The present green steel tied-arch dates from 1929, and its railings are decorated with hairpin (kanzashi) designs recalling the area's pleasure-quarter past. Today the river below is lined with yakatabune dinner boats and tsukudani shops, and the lanterns on the boats make it especially pretty at dusk.
