Togoshi Park 戸越公園
The former Hosokawa clan villa garden in residential Shinagawa, with a large carp pond, a waterfall, a stone-paved valley and a grand wooden gate, free and nearly always peaceful.
About
Togoshi Park was once part of the Edo villa of the Kumamoto Hosokawa lords and later the Mitsui family. Today it is a small but beautifully composed Japanese garden around a pond with a cascading waterfall, a ravine-like 'valley' path, a pine-covered artificial hill and a magnificent wooden yakuimon gate. In late November the maples and gingkos make it a hidden autumn-colour spot. Locals combine it with snacks along nearby Togoshi Ginza; tourists who visit that street almost never find the park.
