Tantan (Hachioji) タンタン
A family-run Hachioji ramen shop founded around 1978, regarded as the origin of the Minmin ramen taste; light shoyu soup, thin noodles and chopped onion, weekday lunch only.
Chashu ramen: ¥950
About
Tantan opened in Koyasu-cho, south of Hachioji Station, around 1978 (some sources say 1980), founded by the mother of the man who later started Hachioji's well-known Minmin Ramen. It serves Hachioji ramen in a homely, family-run room: a light, clear soy broth with a film of lard, thin low-hydration noodles from a local noodle maker, and plenty of chopped onion. Prices are low and the bowls are gentle, the kind of ramen locals eat weekly. It only opens for weekday lunch, which makes it a true local's place.
