Sushi no Midori (Shibuya) 梅丘寿司の美登利 渋谷店

Tokyo's favourite 'value sushi' institution: big, glistening nigiri and lavish anago at prices that feel like a typo, which is why the queue at Shibuya Mark City is legendary.

About

Midori began as a neighbourhood sushi shop in Umegaoka, Setagaya, and became famous for generous portions of high-quality fish at very fair prices. The Shibuya branch inside Mark City is the busiest of its locations: diners take a numbered ticket from the machine at the door and wait, sometimes for over an hour, for a counter or table seat. Sets like the 'tokusen' premium nigiri platter or chef's choice offer tuna (including fatty toro), sea urchin, salmon roe and the shop's signature whole conger eel (anago) that drapes off the plate. Staff are used to visitors and there's an English menu. Other branches (Ginza Corridor, Akasaka, Ikebukuro, Kichijoji) offer the same food, often with shorter waits.
