About

Kiraku has been feeding Shibuya since 1952, long before the scramble crossing became a postcard. The family-run shop sits on a side street of Dogenzaka hill and serves old-style Tokyo chuka men with a twist: a scattering of deep-fried shallots (age-negi) that perfumes the dark, slightly sweet soy broth. The most popular order is moyashi-men, topped with a pile of stir-fried bean sprouts, and wantanmen is the regulars' alternative. The ground floor is a busy counter, with tables upstairs; staff work fast and turnover is quick. It is an antidote to Shibuya's chains and one of the very few Showa-era ramen shops still trading in the area.
