Sushi Dai (Toyosu Market) 寿司大 豊洲市場店
The legendary market sushi counter that moved from Tsukiji to Toyosu: an omakase of top-grade market fish at breakfast, after a famously long pre-dawn queue.
About
Sushi Dai built its reputation in the Tsukiji inner market and moved with it to Toyosu's Fish Wholesale Market building in 2018. The chefs are chatty and welcoming; the omakase set (about 10 pieces plus a roll and miso soup, with a final piece of your choice) uses what came off the auction floor that morning, from chu-toro to seasonal shellfish. Seating is only around 12–13, so queues of two to four hours are common, sometimes starting before 5am. It's touristy, yes, but the quality-to-price ratio is excellent.
Highlights
- Omakase from the morning's auction, served piece by piece
- Friendly chefs who explain each fish in English
- Final 'your choice' piece in the omakase set
- Located in the Toyosu fish wholesale building, near the tuna auction viewing deck
Tips
- Queue before 5:00 to eat by 7:00; rainy weekdays are shortest
- Market is closed on Sundays, holidays and some Wednesdays, check the Toyosu market calendar
- Combine with the tuna auction viewing gallery (5:30–6:30) in the next building
- Cash recommended; one order per person required
