About

Street go-karting became a Tokyo sensation in the 2010s, and STREET KART runs several shops including this base in Shinkiba, whose courses take in the waterfront, Rainbow Bridge and the Odaiba skyline. A guide leads a small convoy of karts on public roads; you pick a costume (superheroes, animals, onesies, no copyrighted game characters these days) and get a briefing before setting off. It's genuinely exhilarating, you sit very low among buses and taxis, and evening tours with the city lit up are spectacular. The catch is paperwork: every driver must carry a valid International Driving Permit in the 1949 Geneva Convention format (or, for some countries such as Germany, France, Switzerland and Taiwan, an official JAF translation), plus passport. IDPs cannot be issued in Japan. Basic insurance carries a ¥50,000 deductible, so consider the full-coverage upgrade.
