About

Until 1962, when land reclamation for the port and airport ended it, the Omori coast was the birthplace of the nori industry, its bamboo-staked shallows producing the dried seaweed sheets that wrap sushi and onigiri. This ward museum preserves the story: a full-size nori-farming boat designated as tangible folk cultural property, tools for cutting and drying sheets, old photographs of the seaweed fields, and changing exhibitions. Volunteers run seasonal workshops in making nori sheets by hand. The building opens onto Omori Furusato no Hamabe Park, with a beach and tidal flats, and from the upper terrace you can watch planes descending into Haneda.
