Inside the Big Fun Heiwajima entertainment complex beside the boat-race stadium, Heiwajima Onsen pumps highly salty natural spring water from around 2,000 metres below the bay. There are two bath floors, a range of saunas including a stone sauna, outdoor tubs, massage and body-care treatments, restaurants and large reclining lounges. Because it never closes, it has become a favourite budget alternative to an airport hotel: arrive late, soak, sleep in the relaxation room and catch a 15-minute ride to Haneda in the morning. The facility even sells plans timed to late-night and early-morning flights. Admission includes towels and loungewear.

Tips

• Haneda is 15 minutes away by Keikyu or taxi
