A free lawn terrace on the 6th floor of KITTE that looks straight across at the domes of Tokyo Station's red-brick Marunouchi building and down onto the tracks where Shinkansen glide in.
About
KITTE occupies the restored 1931 Tokyo Central Post Office beside Tokyo Station, and its 6th-floor rooftop garden is one of the best free views in central Tokyo. From the railing you see the whole south half of Tokyo Station's 1914 Marunouchi building, with its restored domes, the Marunouchi plaza and, to the right, the platforms where Shinkansen, Yamanote and Chuo line trains come and go. Behind the station rise the towers of Yaesu. It works at every hour: soft morning light on the bricks, golden evening light, and best of all blue hour, when the station is floodlit and trains leave streaks of light. It closes in strong wind and rain.

Tips
- Blue hour is the shot: about 20 to 40 minutes after sunset.
- Tripods are not permitted; rest the camera on the railing ledge or use a small bean bag.
- A 24-70 mm frames the station; a 100-400 mm picks out Shinkansen noses on the platforms.
- Closed in bad weather, and hours vary with KITTE's schedule (roughly 11:00 to 23:00, earlier on Sundays and holidays).
