About

It surprises people that Tokyo has sake breweries, but the Tama area's clean groundwater has supported them for centuries. Ishikawa Brewery, makers of Tamajiman sake and Tama no Megumi craft beer, occupies a cluster of black-and-white storehouses and gardens on the edge of Fussa. You can wander the grounds on a free self-guided route with QR-code English explanations, or reserve an English or French tour that explains the brewing process and the family's history before a tasting of several sakes. The brewery shop sells bottles you can't easily find in central Tokyo, and on-site restaurants, including an Italian one, serve food designed to pair with the drinks. It's a 20-minute walk from Haijima Station, about an hour from Shinjuku, and combines well with Okutama or the Ome line's other breweries.
