About

Hamura Intake Weir is where the Tamagawa Josui aqueduct, dug in 1653 to supply Edo with drinking water, takes its water from the Tama River. The riverside is lined with about 200 cherry trees, a statue honours the Tamagawa brothers who built the canal, and the weir still uses a traditional removable-beam design. Downstream, wide gravel banks and the start of the aqueduct path make for an easy walk.
