About

Ueno opened High Five in Ginza in 2008, and it became the bar that introduced many international bartenders to the precision of Japanese cocktail craft. There is no menu: the bartenders ask what spirits, flavours and moods you like, then build a drink to order, often with ice carved into diamonds or spheres at the bar. The setting is a small, low-lit room with counter seats and a deep back-bar of whiskies and rare bottles. Service is warm and unpretentious, and Ueno, when present, loves to chat. Expect a cover charge with snacks, and allow time, one drink here is an experience.
