Aioi Bridge 相生橋
A blue truss bridge linking Tsukudajima to Etchujima, with a tiny island park in the middle of the river and views of the Okawabata towers.
About
Aioi-bashi crosses the Sumida's side channel (the Sumida-gawa Hasen) and was originally built in 1903 as two bridges, a long and a short one, joined by an islet: the name echoes the "aioi" paired pine trees. Rebuilt after the 1923 earthquake as the first reconstruction bridge, it was replaced in 1998 by today's three-span steel truss. Below it is Nakanoshima Park, the only park on an island in the Sumida, with lawns and benches looking at the Okawabata River City towers and Eitai Bridge.
