About

Yaekatsu has fried skewers in Jan Jan Yokocho, the covered alley running south from Shinsekai, since 1947. Its batter, made with yam, puffs up lighter and crunchier than most, and regulars swear by the doteyaki, beef tendon stewed in sweet white miso. The long counter is staffed by fast, no-nonsense cooks, and there is almost always a queue on the street. The same no-double-dipping rule applies, and cabbage is free.
