About
Janjan Yokocho runs from Dobutsuen-mae Station up to Shinsekai, a slim arcade of counters, hand-painted menus and shogi and go parlours where locals play under fluorescent light. Shoot from the southern end for a compressed corridor of signs and lanterns, or look for details: menu boards, steaming fryers, noren curtains. It is a living neighbourhood street, so be discreet.
Highlights
- Retro covered arcade of kushikatsu stalls
- Shogi parlours visible from the street
- Hand-painted signs and noren
- Direct link between the station and Shinsekai
Tips
- Do not photograph players in shogi parlours or diners without asking.

- Weekday afternoons are least crowded.
