Hariju Dotonbori Honten はり重 道頓堀本店
Beef house founded in 1919, with a butcher, a Showa-style grill and a sukiyaki restaurant in one building on Dotonbori.
About
Hariju began in 1919 as a butcher's shop, aiming to sell better beef more cheaply in a city famous for eating well. It soon opened a sukiyaki restaurant in Shinsekai and later moved its main shop to the corner of Dotonbori and Midosuji. The building now holds three businesses run by the same family: a meat counter that still sells to locals, the Hariju Grill, a Western-style diner that looks unchanged since the Showa era and serves hayashi rice and beef cutlet, and an upstairs Japanese restaurant serving sukiyaki and shabu-shabu in tatami rooms.
