About
Uji Bridge is said to have been first built by the monk Doto in 646 and is counted among Japan's three great old bridges. The current bridge dates from 1996 and keeps the san-no-ma, a small platform jutting upstream from which water was once drawn for tea. A statue of Murasaki Shikibu stands at the west end. The bridge links Keihan Uji Station with the Byodo-in approach.
