Byodoin Omotesando (Uji) 平等院表参道
The tea-scented lane leading to Byodoin in Uji, lined with centuries-old tea merchants roasting hojicha and selling matcha soft-serve, sweets and tea.
About
Uji's main approach to Byodoin has been a tea street for centuries, and the smell of roasting tea leaves often hangs in the air. Shops along the 200 m lane include long-established tea merchants selling matcha, gyokuro and sencha; tea cafes; and stalls for matcha soft-serve, matcha dango and tea-flavoured sweets. It runs from near the Uji Bridge to the Byodoin gate and pairs naturally with Nakamura Tokichi's Byodoin branch and the riverside.
