Starbucks Kyoto Ninenzaka Yasaka Chaya スターバックス コーヒー 京都二寧坂ヤサカ茶屋店
The world's only tatami Starbucks: a 100-year-old machiya on Ninenzaka with an indigo noren curtain, garden views and floor-cushion seating upstairs.
About
Opened in 2017 inside a two-storey, century-old townhouse on the stone-paved Ninenzaka slope, this Starbucks blends into the historic street with no illuminated sign, just a short indigo noren curtain bearing the logo. Inside, the original structure has been preserved: the deep, narrow rooms, a small tsuboniwa courtyard garden, and upstairs tatami rooms with zabuton cushions (shoes off). The menu is regular Starbucks, but the setting made it one of Kyoto's most-photographed cafes.
