Kangetsukyo Bridge 観月橋
A Fushimi bridge over the Uji River named after Toyotomi Hideyoshi's moon-viewing parties, at the old river port linking Fushimi with Uji and Osaka.
About
Known in the Edo period as Bungo-bashi, the bridge was renamed Kangetsukyo ("moon-viewing bridge") in the early Meiji era after the moon-viewing banquets Toyotomi Hideyoshi is said to have held at nearby Shigetsu, below his Fushimi Castle. The current bridge carrying Route 24 dates from 1936, and a newer bridge, Shin-Kangetsukyo, runs alongside upstream. The Uji River banks here are wide and quiet, and the sake-brewery district of Fushimi is a short train ride away.
