Torisei Honten (Fushimi) 鳥せい 本店
Yakitori and fresh-pressed sake in a converted Fushimi brewery storehouse run by Yamamoto Honke, makers of Shinsei. The neighbourhood's liveliest lunch and dinner spot.
About
Torisei is the restaurant of the Yamamoto Honke brewery, founded in 1677, and occupies one of its old sake storehouses near the Fushimi canal. Expect smoky yakitori, chicken dishes and sake drawn fresh from the brewery, including unfiltered seasonal pours you rarely see elsewhere. Sake-lees soft serve is the classic finish. It is busy at weekends but turns tables fast, and it makes the natural meal stop on a Fushimi sake walk.
