Uosaburo-ro 魚三楼
Fushimi ryotei founded in 1764 whose front lattice still shows bullet marks from the 1868 Battle of Toba-Fushimi.
About
Uosaburo-ro has been a restaurant on Kyomachi-dori, the old road from the port of Fushimi into Kyoto, since 1764. In January 1868 the first battle of the Boshin War broke out around Fushimi, and the shogunate's forces were shelled from Satsuma positions at nearby Gokonomiya Shrine. Much of the town burned. Uosaburo-ro survived, perhaps because it had been cooking for the Satsuma army. Look at the latticed window by the entrance: the marks in the wood are said to be bullet holes from the fighting. The kitchen serves Kyoto kaiseki and bento.
