Demachi Futaba has made fresh mochi since 1899 at the entrance of the Demachi Masugata shopping street. The signature mame-mochi is a soft, slightly salty rice cake with whole red peas and a sweet smooth bean filling; it must be eaten the same day. There are seasonal specials such as sakura-mochi and kashiwa-mochi. The queue moves fast; staff work at astonishing speed.
