About

Opened in 2017, Demachiza combines two small cinemas (42 seats in the basement and 48 upstairs) with a ground-floor cafe and the CAVA BOOKS bookshop. It shows independent Japanese and international films and runs a film school and gallery. Kyoto City's official tourism magazine has featured it. Foreign films are normally screened in the original language with Japanese subtitles (look for 字幕 on the schedule, not 吹替 = dubbed); Japanese films are usually shown without English subtitles.
