Below Kyoto Station, banks sit outside the Karasuma Line's north gate and along the Porta underground mall (east toilets and the Kawaramachi/Higashiyama exit stairs), including a few extra-large units. Often emptier than the JR banks above.

When the JR banks on the Karasuma side are full, go down a level. The Kyoto Municipal Subway's Kyoto Station has a small bank just right of the north gate, and the Porta underground shopping mall has two more: one by the east-side toilets (small, medium, large and a few extra-large) and one by the stairs to the Kawaramachi/Higashiyama exits (open roughly 10:00-20:00 with the mall). These lockers are coin-operated. The subway's Karasuma Line runs north to Shijo, Karasuma Oike and Kokusaikaikan from here.

Tips

• Porta mall lockers follow mall hours; don't plan a late-night pickup there
• The subway gate bank is outside the gates, so no ticket is needed
• Most lockers are cleared after 3 days and the contents go to the station lost-property office, so don't use them for multi-day storage
