About
Amanohashidate, the 'bridge to heaven', is a narrow sandbar planted with around 8,000 pine trees that almost closes off Aso Bay. You can walk or cycle its length in about 50 or 20 minutes, with a beach along the seaward side. Viewpoints at View Land on the south side and Kasamatsu Park on the north give the classic overhead views. A swing bridge near Monju turns to let boats through.
Highlights
- Walking or cycling the pine-lined sandbar
- Views from Kasamatsu Park and View Land
- Kaisenkyo swing bridge at the Monju end
- Isoshimizu freshwater well on the sandbar
Tips
- Rent a bicycle near the station and return by boat
- Allow time for both viewpoints, which are on opposite ends
