Beppu Station is the gateway to the city: Sonic limited express trains run to Kokura (about 75 min) and Hakata (about 2 hours), local trains to Oita and the Airliner bus stop is close by. The East Exit faces the sea and the old town, with a statue of Aburaya Kumahachi, the eccentric promoter who made Beppu famous, mid-leap with a little devil clinging to his cape; the West Exit is where Kamenoi buses leave for Kannawa, Myoban and the hells. The Ekimachi 1-chome shopping mall with souvenirs and toriten are inside. Coin lockers are at both exits.
